Cozy Fall Movie Nights: A Kid-Friendly Fall Movie List + Ways to Make It Magical 🍂🎬

There’s something about fall that makes an ordinary movie night feel a little more special.

Maybe it’s the earlier sunsets, the smell of something warm baking in the kitchen, or the excuse to pile every blanket in the house onto the couch. And even if you live somewhere where autumn still feels suspiciously like summer outside, you can create a little fall magic right at home.

One of my favorite things about this season is finding simple ways to make childhood feel magical—and a cozy fall movie night is one of the easiest.

You don’t need an elaborate setup or an expensive basket full of new things. Pick a movie, make a snack, dim the lights, and spend the evening together.

Here are some of my favorite kid-friendly movies for cozy fall nights, plus a few simple ways to make the experience extra special.

🍁 Cozy Fall Movies for Kids

🎃 It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

You really can’t have a classic fall movie list without Charlie Brown. Pumpkins, leaves, costumes and the Great Pumpkin make this one perfect for an October family night.

Make it magical: Carve or paint pumpkins before the movie and let everyone choose their own "Great Pumpkin" snack.

🧹 Kiki’s Delivery Service

Cozy streets, a sweet black cat, a young witch and lots of gentle magic make Kiki’s Delivery Service such a wonderful fall watch.

Make it magical: Make hot chocolate and a little bakery-inspired treat to enjoy while you watch.

🍂 Winnie the Pooh: Seasons of Giving

Winnie the Pooh has the ultimate cozy woodland feeling. This sweet collection of stories brings together friendship, gratitude and changing seasons.

Make it magical: Have a tiny indoor picnic with honey-inspired snacks, apple slices and warm cider.

👻 Casper

For kids who want something Halloween-y without going too scary, Casper is a nostalgic October favorite.

Make it magical: Make little marshmallow ghosts or decorate ghost-shaped cookies beforehand.

🧙‍♀️ Halloweentown

A magical town where it's basically Halloween all the time? Yes, please. Halloweentown is especially fun for older elementary-age kids who are ready for a little more adventure.

Make it magical: Let the kids dress in Halloween pajamas or costumes for the movie.

🐈‍⬛ Room on the Broom

This one is wonderful for younger children. It’s short, sweet and filled with witches, animals and friendship.

Make it magical: Read the book first and then watch the movie together. Kids can compare what they noticed in each version.

🏨 Hotel Transylvania

Silly monsters and plenty of Halloween atmosphere make this an easy choice when you want something funny rather than spooky.

Make it magical: Create a "monster snack board" with popcorn, pretzels, fruit and a few Halloween treats.

💀 Coco

While Coco centers on Día de los Muertos rather than Halloween, its warm colors, family themes, music and beautiful celebration of remembering loved ones make it a meaningful autumn movie.

Make it magical: Talk about someone you love or a favorite family memory afterward.

🎃 Spookley the Square Pumpkin

Especially cute for younger kids, Spookley combines pumpkins and fall with a sweet message about being different.

Make it magical: Decorate paper pumpkins in all kinds of shapes, colors and personalities.

🦊 Fantastic Mr. Fox

The golden-orange colors alone make this movie feel like fall. It’s quirky, funny and particularly fun for families with slightly older kids.

Make it magical: Make a blanket fort or "fox den" to watch the movie from.

🧙 The Nightmare Before Christmas

For kids who enjoy slightly spooky stories, this is the perfect bridge between Halloween and Christmas.

Make it magical: Make Halloween popcorn with chocolate candies or sprinkles and turn off all the lights except a strand of twinkle lights.

🐭 The Gruffalo

Another wonderful choice for little ones. A woodland adventure on a chilly-looking day makes this short film perfect for an early fall evening.

Make it magical: Go on a nature walk earlier in the day and collect leaves, sticks or pinecones for a fall craft.

🍿 Turn Movie Night Into a Fall Tradition

The movie is really only part of the fun.

Kids often remember the tiny traditions surrounding an experience more than the actual activity itself. You can make Friday nights "Fall Movie Fridays" throughout September and October and choose one movie each week.

Write all your movie choices on little pieces of paper and put them inside a jar. Each week, let your child pull one out.

Then add one little bit of magic.

Make caramel apples.

Bake cookies.

Wear matching pajamas.

Build a giant blanket fort.

Make homemade pizza.

Turn regular popcorn into "magic popcorn" with a few fall-colored candies.

Have dinner on a blanket in the living room.

Print movie tickets and let your child pretend to run the theater.

Or simply turn off the lights, light a fall candle after the kids are settled safely away from it, grab your favorite blankets and snuggle together.

It doesn't have to be Pinterest-perfect.

✨ The Magic Is in the Ordinary Things

I think sometimes we put too much pressure on ourselves to create these huge, unforgettable childhood experiences.

But magic doesn't always look like an expensive vacation or an elaborate themed party.

Sometimes it's popcorn in the same bowl every Friday night.

It's letting your child stay up a tiny bit later.

It's a blanket fort that takes over the living room.

It's apple cider in their favorite mug.

It's hearing, "Remember when we always watched fall movies together?"

Those are the things I hope our kids carry with them.

So pick a movie, grab the coziest blanket you own and make an ordinary evening feel just a little bit magical.

Happy fall movie watching. 🍂🎃✨

With love & light,
Leah
